On graduating from my BA (Hons) degree I worked as a freelance artworker and designer, which included creating new company logo designs and related business stationery, advertisements and artworking on existing brands before becoming a sole in-house designer for a global wholesaler of wall décor (Gallery Direct Ltd); a position I held for almost four years. The design role grew and in the last few months I also trained a new junior designer.
In my position as sole in-house designer for Gallery Direct Ltd, I designed; tags, labels, direct-mail, exhibition graphics (including the NEC Furniture Show), brochures, advertisements, packaging and in-store displays (UK and US stores) as well as producing product designs and style sheets, retouching photos, super-imposing products into lifestyle shots, archiving images, registering new designs with ACID and European Design Registration, dealing with; printers, art publishers, external designers and retailers. I also created my own artwork and surface pattern designs for canvas art, plaques, etched mirrors and screen-printed mirrors. My bespoke artwork was selected for canvas wall art by retailers; Littlewoods and Kaleidoscope and my bespoke mirror designs were selected by Argos, Littlewoods, Oli and Furniture Village for their ranges. I selected art and photography from art publishers for product ranges and bespoke seasonal retail ranges, which I retouched and set for print, as well as producing PowerPoint sales presentations of range plans for meetings with retailers for the Managing Director, Sales Reps, Sales and Account Managers in both the UK and US. I also worked with the Managing Director to create the wholesale mirror and art ranges. I designed and selected artwork based on design trends and accents and produced mood boards and presentations for retailers such as John Lewis.
I gained a huge amount of experience from working on wall décor for interiors, which is why I have trained as an interior designer and now create my own artwork/designs for my own online stores (links via my Shop page).
Since leaving Gallery Direct Ltd, I have created my own small start-up design business and work as a sole-trader working on graphic design briefs/projects as well as digital art and illustration for my online stores. I have also worked as freelance graphic designer within design agencies and a marketing department within a college. During my freelance work I created leaflets, online newsletters, press-ads, posters and large format artwork for print for British Gas including large wall posters, hanging signs and desk dividers as well as presenters of proposed graphics.
